1- Setting up Pages
including:
- Setting up basic layout options
- Laying out pages with frames
- Numbering pages
- F
12 = go to pages
- Make
sure you are working on the Master pages
- For
Automatic page numbering: create box at the bottom of the page =>
click on T in the tool box (for text) => click inside the box => go
to Type => insert special character => auto page number
- Copy
the created box and Òpaste in placeÓ on the second master page
- Changing Numbering and Section Options
- F
12 = go to page
- Highlight

- Layout
=> numbering + section options => start page numbers atÉ
- Using masters
- Applying Master Pages to Multiple Document Pages
- Shapes and designs
- To
lock a shape: go to Object => lock position
- To
align 2 objects: select them both => click on Align Top in the top
margin.
- Colors and Swatches
- F6
= color window
- To
save color: window => swatches (F5)=> right click on top arrow
=> new color swatch (same for other swatches)
- Gradients
a) Number pages automatically on Master Page
b) Change the numbering of page 1 into 30
c) Create a new color
d) Add the color to the color swatch
e) Create a new gradient
f) Create a shape and change the size of its border into
30.
g) Change the shape of its border into a decorative one
h) Fill it with the new gradient you created
2- Working
with text including:
- About text frames & Setting text frame
properties
- T tool => create a text frame
- Properties of text frame:
- Command B or Object or right click => text
frame options
- In text frame options:
a) Decide on colors
b) Fixed column width
c) Spacing between columns
d) Background color
e) Leading (120% of copy font size; ex: body font size =
10pts => leading = 12pts
- Adding text to frames
- Go to Type (or right click) => Fill with
placeholder text
- Applying Fills and Strokes to Frames
- Applying Transparency
- Windows => transparency [shift F10] (change
opacity for effectiveness)
- Try the options under transparency
- Change opacity
- Transparency Effects
- Editing text
- Finding and changing text
- Combining text and graphics
- Place picture => fit contents proportionally
- Create circle => fill it with text
- Create circle or draw a zigzag line (with pen
tool) => type a path by selecting ÒType on a pathÓ tool (shift T)
=> hide frame if you want
- If we want to place a picture as the background
of a text, we need to place the picture then draw a text box on top of it
- If we want to make the background picture and
the text stick together, we select both => Object => Group (Command
G)
- Text Wrap
- Windows => types and tables => text wrap
a) Create a text box
b) Fill text box with text (2 columns)
c) Put a frame around the text + insert spacing all
around
d) Place a picture in the middle of the text in text wrap
mode
e) Make a frame for that picture
f) Make a picture in the middle of the text transparent
g) Draw a zigzag line + type a path
3- Setting Type
including:
- Working with text import, Formatting characters,
Formatting paragraphs
- Create a text (text box => type => fill
with placeholder text)
- Change font, font size, leading, all caps, small
caps, superscript, subscript, underline, italicizeÉ
- Align, indent, drop cap, change number of
columns, hyphenate (or not!)
- We can do all this from: Window => Type and
tables => Character OR Type =>
Character
- Working with character style
- Type => Character styles (word inside a
paragraph) => right arrow => new character style => name it.
- To update the character style: double click on
it => change what you want => create shortcut if you want
- Working with paragraph style
- Type => Paragraph styles => right arrow
=> new paragraph style => name it.
- If you see a + (which means that there has
already been made a specific style) => click on ALT (option) =>
then click another time on the paragraph style
- Creating outlines
- Highlight a few words => put them in the
desired size => Type
=> create outlines => modify the desired width of the
outline
- If the words are grouped and you want to modify
each letter/word alone => Object => ungroup => view =>
uncheck snap to guides
- If this does not work and you want to ungroup
numbers: Object => compound paths => release
- Corner effect
- Create a picture box
- Object => corner effects => change the
frame and the size (you can also color the frame)
- Copying type attributes with the eyedropper tool
- Highlight text you want to change => click on
the eye dropper tool => click on the text style we want to copy
- Clipping path
- Create a text box => insert a picture with a
white background => Window => Types and Tables => Text Wrap
=> Contour options: detect edges => right click on image box =>
arrange => send to back
- Finding and changing text
- How to save your workspace
- Window => workspace => save workspace
(give it a name)
- After I have logged out, if I log in again and I
want the same workspace: Window => workspace => I click on the name
of the workspace I gave to the one I saved
- Blending Modes (on Photoshop)
- Open two pictures in Photoshop
- Select one with the rectangular marquee tool
=> copy and paste it inside the frame of the other one
- Use the eraser (make the brush bigger) to erase
the borders of the one we want to blend with the other photo
- OR Select the second picture with the
rectangular marquee tool => go to Select => feather => modify
the number (50?) => Select => inverse => delete
- Insert pictures in text
- Write a text using a big font / font size =>
Object => Create outlines => select white arrow => file =>
place => choose picture => OK => fit proportionally
- Drop shadow
- Write text in a text box => Object => drop
shadow + check preview box and alter as you wish.
a) Create a text, change font, font size, leading, all
caps, small caps, superscript, subscript, underline, italicizeÉ
b) Align, indent, drop cap, change number of columns,
hyphenate (or not!)
c) Save the character style, name it, and apply it
somewhere else in the paragraph
d) Save the paragraph style, name it, and apply it to
another paragraph
e) Create outlines to the word ÒSCHOOLÓ (font size 45,
bold, border color = yellow, inside color = red)
f) Create corner effect to a picture frame size 15, color
blue
g) Clipping path: Create a text box => insert a
picture with a white background => detect edges => send picture to back
h) Save your workspace
Command + Alt + Shift => to
make pictures bigger proportionally
